Wildfire rages on lower slopes of Carmel

A wildfire was raging Tuesday afternoon on the lower western slopes of the Carmel. The billowing clouds of smoke hampered visibility, prompting police to close Highway 4 between Fureidis and Atlit Junctions earlier in the afternoon, Israel Radio reported. The road has since reopened Fifteen firefighter crews were battling the blaze, aided by planes. Firefighters said that while none of the homes in the vicinity were in immediate danger, an evacuation might be a possibility.
