The remand of Anastasia Mikal, the 22-year-old woman who fatally stabbed her boyfriend at a Kinneret beach early Saturday morning following a night of drinking, was extended for four days on Saturday by the Nazareth Magistrate's Court.
Nasim Afifi, a 27-year-old Nazareth resident went to the Resital Beach near Tiberias on Friday night, together with his girlfriend and another couple, for a night of entertainment.
Shortly after 10 p.m., another young man arrived at the beach and confronted the couple, accusing the woman of being involved with other men. In the wake of the allegations, an argument broke out between Afifi, and his girlfriend, a resident of Migdal Haemek. During the course of the altercation, the woman picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Afifi, causing a shallow wound to his shoulder.
Following the initial attack, the situation appeared to have calmed somewhat, and the couple remained at the beach. But early Saturday morning, the argument was rekindled after the couple had been drinking heavily and become intoxicated.
Under questioning, the young woman claimed that Afifi then tried to strangle her, but a mutual friend intervened to save her. She then grabbed the knife once again, and stabbed Afifi in the chest. MDA Tiberias teams pronounced Afifi dead on the scene, and his body was taken to nearby Poria Hospital, where it was turned over to his grieving family. Police officers detained the young woman for questioning. The investigation into the murder was assigned to the Amakim Subdistrict's elite Central Investigative Unit (CIU) under the command of Ch.-Supt. David Pil.
Later Saturday, the woman admitted to committing the murder and even agreed to recreate it before police investigators.
Police said that the couple had been dating for about a year, and emphasized that neither Afifi nor his girlfriend had a criminal record, nor had any prior complaints been issued by either the victim or the suspected murderer.
