Shas leader Eli Yishai said at his party's conference on Wednesday evening that "the movement which advocated the destruction of Israel's Jewish roots", Shinui, has all but disappeared.
His statement followed the resignation of former Shinui leader Yosef (Tommy) Lapid on Wednesday afternoon.
Yishai also commented on Monday's poverty report saying, "Half of Israel's Jewish population has been neglected by the present government."
He said that it is the ambition of Shas to attain enough mandates in the upcoming elections to make it Israel's second largest party.
