Conference on anti-Semitism starts Tuesday in Jerusalem

A joint European Commission-Israel conference on racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism is scheduled to open Tuesday in Jerusalem. The two-day seminar, which will be attended by 12 senior education officials from 11 countries around the world - including the Belgian Education Minister and the deputy ministers of education from Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic - will include a day-long visit to Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, and various working sessions at the Foreign Ministry. "There is a much greater awareness and willingness to deal with these problems in Europe today than in the past," said Aviva Raz-Shechter, Director of the Department of anti-Semitism and Holocaust Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The issue of Palestinian incitement in the media against Israel will not be raised at the conference due to its focus on Europe.
