Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger appealed to the Israeli public on Wednesday not to burn hametz (leavened products) ahead of Pessah as is traditional, but give their stocks of hametz to organizations that feed the needy, Army Radio reported. Metzger said that to fulfill the mitzvah of burning hametz, people need only use a symbolic amount.
