German police were searching for vandals who painted 11 swastikas on some of the 2,700 gray slabs of Berlin's Holocaust memorial, on Saturday. A police statement said the red and black Nazi symbols were discovered by a guard at the monument and were immediately wiped off the seven slabs affected. The memorial to the Holocaust's 6 million Jewish victims is a field of gray slabs situated close to Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. It opened to the public in 2005 and is freely accessible around the clock. It has been vandalized several times since then. The vandalism discovered on Saturday came a week after a memorial to gay victims of the Nazis was also damaged.
