Last month, the Jewish community of Thessaloniki commemorated 70 years since the first deportation of Jews to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camps.
In association with the local Jewish community, the municipality, the World Jewish Congress and the Israeli embassy in Athens, representatives of world Jewry converged upon the city to remember the 50,000 Jews of Thessaloniki who perished in the Holocaust.
