Haifa is moving toward introducing electric cars to the city, setting up a team to examine how best to create the infrastructure for them, reports Yediot Haifa. City officials and the Better Place company are working on a plan for the introduction of recharging stations for electric cars, with the aim of installing the stations in 2009. According to the report, Mayor Yona Yahav, city officials and company representatives met recently to discuss the idea, and Yahav agreed to set up the team. As part of the plan, the city council will be asked to agree to discounts of 50 percent for "green" vehicles in public car parks. "As a pioneering city in transport infrastructure, it is our intention also to be pioneers in the field of infrastructure for vehicles that do not pollute the environment," Yahav said.
