The district planning and construction committee has approved the construction of hotels in the Herzliya Pituah industrial area, reports the Hebrew weekly Ha'ir Ra'anana. The decision gives the green light to the Herzliya Municipality to allow hotels to be built in the area, currently populated by offices, industries and restaurants.
According to the report, Herzliya Mayor Yael German asked for the approval in response to requests by local business owners. German said there were not enough hotels in Herzliya for the many visitors who arrive to participate in conferences and other events in the seaside city, and numerous entrepreneurs and builders had expressed an interest in building hotels in the industrial zone.
The report said the industrial zone, which is about 575,000 square meters in size, is mostly built up, but about 50,000 square meters of land remains available. A municipal spokesman said any hotels to be built would also provide solutions for the current heavy traffic problems in the area.
