Former SPNI leader to run on Barkat's municipal list

The former head of the Jerusalem branch of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel will be running on Jerusalem opposition leader Nir Barkat's party list in the upcoming municipal elections, Barkat's office said Thursday. "My work at the SPNI has taught me that public power can work to be a positive influence on the city," Naomi Tsur said in a statement. Tsur's organization was at the forefront a major environmental struggle against a controversial westward Jerusalem construction plan - which has since been frozen - that green groups said would have irrevocably damaged the Jerusalem landscape.
