Tel Aviv is planning to construct a massive 13-tower business district on 84 dunams of land next to the Ayalon freeway, reports the Hebrew weekly Yediot Tel Aviv. City officials are currently promoting the huge project to the local Planning and Construction Committee, which has already approved the construction of the first three towers, each 32 stories high. According to the report, the new business district is being planned to contain a total of 1.7 million square meters of office space in 13 towers of 12 to 40 stories. Each tower will have four floors of car parking, with two of those floors to be underground. The district will stretch from La Guardia to Derech Heyl Hashiryon along the western side of the Ayalon freeway, and is bounded by Rehov Haheresh in the west. The land is currently divided among a number of owners, including private individuals, the city, the state, and the Tnuva and Sano companies; and the city wants to divide it into three-dunam blocks on which the owners would be given building rights. Deputy Mayor and committee head Doron Sapir said the project would be "a limb" connected to the central business district that begins on Rehov Harakevet, runs along Derech Begin and ends at the central bus station. "Our policy is to build towers for employment purposes along the entire length of the Ayalon freeway," Sapir said. "Today, this area is neglected, and in this way we are strengthening Tel Aviv's position as the business center of the country." No dates for the start or the completion of the work were reported.
