Kfar Saba leads in vehicle emissions

The report also said that owners found to be in breach of vehicular pollution regulations were required to repair the faults.

Kfar Saba and Bnei Brak share the undesirable title of being the two cities with the most polluting vehicles in Israel, reports www.local.co.il. In its half-yearly report for January to June 2008, the Public Council for the Prevention of Noise and Air Pollution in Israel (Malraz) found that the two cities have more polluting vehicles than any other in the central area. According to the report, the non-profit organization checked 3,137 vehicles in the first half of this year and found 279 of them to be in breach of emissions standards. While the report did not detail the numbers of offending vehicles in each city, it did point out that 80 percent of the vehicles checked in Kfar Saba and Bnei Brak did not belong to residents of those cities. The report also said that owners found to be in breach of vehicular pollution regulations were required to repair the faults and to pay fines into an environmental fund.
