A series of police raids on Tel Aviv's nightclubs last weekend turned up three cases of massive overcrowding and of security guards unequipped for their jobs, reports www.local.co.il. The offending nightclubs were issued with closure orders, and their owners are faced with criminal proceedings.
According to the report, police swooped in on nine nightclubs altogether. One, the Breakfast Club on Rehov Rothschild, contained 475 people when its license authorized it to contain just 59 people. Another, Mental House on Rehov Yehuda Halevi, contained 456 people instead of the permitted 89. Both nightclubs were closed for 30 days and their owners have been ordered to appear before police. The third nightclub, Dada, on Rehov Harakevet, contained 425 people instead of the permitted 200. It was closed for 10 days and its owners too were called before police.
All three clubs also reportedly used security guards who were unarmed and untrained for the work. Police said such massive overcrowding was extremely dangerous, and they would continue to raid entertainment venues to put an end to the phenomenon.
