SOUTH
An astronomical journey under the desert sky in Tel Arad National Park on Friday night awaits anyone who wants to know more about the Milky Way – or just wants to bask under striking view of the stars. An astronomy expert equipped with telescopes will spend the night at the campgrounds to provide in-depth explanations of what’s up above. An optional 7 a.m. guided tour of the park on Saturday is also offered at no additional cost.

Join in the jammin’ jazz
From August 27 to 30, the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat is hosting artists from Israel and abroad for a fourday international music festival. Three stages at the Eilat port will bring all that jazz – from classic and traditional to bebop, hard bop and New Orleans – to the 31st festival of its kind. Festivalgoers are also entitled to free entrance to the Eilat Dolphin Reef to enjoy an opportunity to meet and observe dolphins for a relaxing beachside day activity.

Rosh Hanikra night tours

On the last Monday and Thursday of August experience Rosh Hanikra at night with a 90-minute tour of the geological formation. The tours, suitable for the whole family, start at 8:30 p.m. and continue every half hour into the night. This late-night activity includes a ride in a lit-up cable car to the caves, an audiovisual display, stories about the formation of the grottoes, and other interesting facts dating back to the British Mandate about the site. On Thursday, there will be a special concert by singer Rotem Cohen at the site to conclude the month’s night tours.

Musical moonlit nights
On Friday August 25, Yaldei Beit Ha’etz (The Treehouse Kids) will be performing at the 8th Moonlit Nights Festival in the Golan, celebrating 50 years of settlement in the Heights. This musical sensation will have kids – and parents – bringing in Shabbat with extra groove.

Beer-buzzed weekend
End your weekend and this summer’s beer festival season on Saturday night with Petah Tikva’s first-ever beer festival. The event will bring in more than 40 different beers from Israel and around the world to meet everyone’s frothy taste, as well as a variety of street food stands for when the munch kicks in. Entertainment will include a live performance by the rock band Hayehudim, various competitions and a display of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
The beer festival starts at 8:30 p.m. at Shaham Street, Petah Tikva, and has no entrance fee. For more information about the event: www.petah-tikva.muni.il It’s a colorful life After making stops in China and Florida, the “World’s Largest Paint Party” is returning to Israel for the third time in a burst of color on September 9. This energetic electronic dance party will transform you into an exuberant masterpiece overnight as paint flies across the Live Park in Rishon Lezion and world renowned DJs NERVO, Blasterjaxx and Headhunterz keep you on your feet.
The event starts at 9 p.m. and is restricted to age 18 and up, with presentation of identification at the entrance. Tickets are on sale now, ranging from NIS 189 to NIS 269 at www.lifeincolor.co.il.

Love gourmet food, but keep kosher? No problem. Dan Tel Aviv’s “Hayarkon 99” is joining American Express’s Round Tables World Culinary Tour this fall in pop-up form as the only kosher participant. Majorcan chef Andreu Genestra, who has a Michelin star from his hotel restaurant in Spain, will join Dan Tel Aviv restaurant’s chef, Oved Alfia, in creating special savory dishes for this mouthwatering tour.
The joint pop-up will be served at the first round of the Round Tables tour from October 28 to November 2. Tickets go on sale on September 5 at www.roundtablestour.com.
