Abbas returned from a visit to the Gaza Strip Saturday evening without meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, Palestinian news agencies reported. Sources close to Abbas said the chairman canceled a planned meeting with Haniyeh in light of inflammatory remarks made by Hamas' Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar. Zahar railed against the possibility of peace with Israel in a speech to supporters Friday, calling for more kidnappings of Israeli soldiers and saying Israel would one day "disappear."
