Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas sent former Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei to Damascus in a last effort to convince Hamas officials to accept a bargain on the "prisoner's initiative" as Abbas' 10-day deadline for acceptance neared. Qurei was expected to meet Syrian President Bashar Assad in order to request his assistance in convincing Hamas officials, Israel Radio reported.
