Abbas to Rice: Gaps between Israelis and Palestinians are still wide

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is asking the US for more support in peace talks with Israel as little progress has been made despite pledges to seal a deal by January. A senior Palestinian official says Abbas told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday that gaps between the two sides are still wide and that the administration needs to put more pressure on Israel to stop expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
