Ahmad Qurei resigns prime ministry

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei resigned his post on Thursday. The resignation was required by a regulation in Palestinian law in which any civil servant must quit his position before general elections. The last few weeks have been very tumultuous for the Fatah party. During the elections held in the West Bank and Gaza, jailed party leader Marwan Barghouti received a landslide victory. Following the elections, Barghouti established his own political party, creating much uncertainty in Fatah.
