Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry says a serviceman from the ex-Soviet republic has been killed in Iraq.
Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroglu says the 20-year-old man died Friday near the city of Hadid.
He was the first Azerbaijani soldier to die in Iraq. The cause of the death was under investigation.
The oil-rich nation in the strategic South Caucasus region has had 150 troops serving in the US-led coalition in Iraq since August 2003. Azerbaijani troops also serve in Afghanistan.
