Hamas rejects the idea of including jailed Fatah Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti in a deal to release kidnapped IDF Cpl. Gilad Schalit, Hamas spokesman in Gaza Fawzi Barhoum announced on Wednesday. The release of Schalit, Barhoum told reporters at a press conference in the Gaza Strip, is dependent solely on the release of Palestinian prisoners who appear on a list given by Hamas to Israel via Egyptian mediators. On Tuesday, National Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer called on Israel "take a creative step" and offer to release Barghouti in return for the release of Schalit. Barhoum also warned that Palestinians in the West Bank would overthrow Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayad, Israel Radio reported. The PA, Barhoum was quoted as saying in an interview with Palestinian Web site, 'Qudsnet,' is carrying out a sinful and cruel attack on Hamas in the West Bank and are cooperating with Israel to destroy the organization. Barhoum claimed that Abbas's policy - to distance Hamas from the Palestinian arena - was in line with that of Israel's and the US's.
