British soldier dies of wounds from Iraq gunfight

A British soldier has died from injuries sustained in a firefight in Iraq, the Ministry of Defense said Tuesday. The soldier from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh was shot during an operation in the southern city of Basra on Monday. His family has been informed of his death, officials said. A total of 165 British Armed Forces personnel have died in Iraq since the start of the campaign in March 2003.
