Egyptian police order 22 Muslim Brotherhood members to be released

Egyptian police have ordered the release of 22 members of the country's most powerful opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, after four months in detention, police said Sunday. The members were arrested in July as part of an on going police crackdown on the banned group. At the time of their detention, police accused them of trying to revive the group's activities in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria. Authorities ordered them released, but as of Sunday evening, they had not been allowed to leave prison. The Brotherhood, which has been banned since 1954, currently holds 88 seats in the 454-member lower house of the parliament after its members ran as independents.
