Egypt's foreign and energy ministers arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, and were scheduled to stay for one day.
Egypt's Foreign Ministry said that the visit by its minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, aimed to strengthen relations and show support for the Iraqi government.
Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hossam Zaki, noted that it was the first visit by an Egyptian foreign minister to Iraq since 1990.
