Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, who was heading a delegation to South Africa on Saturday, expressed hope that the international Middle East peace conference planned for this fall would bring about a series of meetings centered around the creation of a Palestinian state, Israel Radio reported. According to Erekat, the meetings should empower groups of negotiators who would discuss the core issues of territory, water, borders, the subject of Jerusalem and refugees. Erekat was scheduled to meet with South African President Thabo Mbeki in Pretoria.
