Following a weekend of clashes between Jewish and Arab residents of Acre, hundreds of Gaza Palestinians were holding a rally as an expression of solidarity with Acre's Arabs on Sunday. Speakers at the rally condemned the "Israeli violence" against the city's Arabs and threatened not to stay indifferent to their plight. Islamic Jihad official Muhammad al-Hindi attacked "Israel which calls itself a democracy." According to Hindi, Israel showed racism in its actions and was perpetrating horrible crimes against the "Palestinian people in occupied Palestine." Hindi claimed 62 percent of Israelis were supportive of struggling against the Arabs "to the end." He called upon the Arab world to assist the Palestinian people in restoring their rights. Abu Mujahad, spokesman of the Popular Resistance Committees, said Israel's aim was to hurt Acre's Arab residents, burn their houses and expel them from the city.
