German, Jordanian leaders express hope in upcoming ME summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Jordan's King Abdullah II expressed hope Wednesday that the upcoming US-led summit on Middle East peace will bring a new era of stability in the region. Both leaders said they discussed issues that could feature at the summit later this month. "We hope that Annapolis, Maryland, will open the door to finally bringing the Israelis and Palestinians and the greater region to peace and stability," Abdullah told reporters. The chancellor said the pair discussed other regional issues, including Lebanon, Iraq and Iran, but she did not elaborate.
