A member of the Hamas security force was shot and killed early Wednesday in a stronghold of the Islamic group in Gaza City, hospital officials said. The circumstances of the shooting in the Zeitoun neighborhood were not immediately clear. The shooting came almost two months after Hamas wrested control of the Gaza Strip in five days of brutal fighting. Since then, tensions have been high in Gaza between Hamas and the rival Fatah, which rules in the West Bank after its leader, Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, fired Hamas from the joint government.
