The Shi'ite Muslim Hizbullah group on Sunday blamed the United States for interfering with the election of a new Lebanese president, adding that any new head of state must be supportive of the fight against Israel.
Hizbullah's deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem also said Christian opposition leader and presidential candidate Michel Aoun was the "cornerstone" of a solution to the Lebanese crisis.
"We want a president who believes in the right of defending one's land and protecting its people," Qassem said in a speech south of Beirut.
