US troops killed one suspected insurgent and detained four others said to be involved in kidnapping operations run by Shi'ite armed groups during a raid Monday in eastern Baghdad, the military said. During the raid, US troops were engaged with small-arms fire, explosives and at least one armor-piercing explosively formed penetrator. US troops also called in airstrikes against individuals placing explosives in their path. The military said the suspects were believed to be Iranian-backed rogue Shi'ite fighters.
