A suicide car bomber drove his car into an Iraq army checkpoint on Tuesday in Baghdad, killing one soldier and wounding another, police said. The attack occurred at 6:45 a.m. and damaged nearby shops in the predominantly Sunni western neighborhood of Jami'a, police said. A roadside bomb exploded 300 meters away about five minutes later but it caused no casualties, police said. Seven civilians also were wounded in two separate attacks in southeastern Baghdad, police said. .
