Iraq: US Marine dies in fighting west of Baghdad

A US Marine was killed in fighting in the volatile Anbar province, the military said Tuesday. The Marine assigned to Multi-National Force - West, died Monday from wounds sustained due to enemy action in the vast insurgent stronghold, which stretches from Baghdad to the borders with Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia, according to a statement. The identity of the slain Marine was not released pending notification of relatives. The death raises to at least 3,099 members of the US military who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
