Iraqi officials: Car bomb north of Baghdad kills 3

A car bomb killed three people and injured up to 30 near a Shiite shrine in a city north of Baghdad, Iraqi officials said Wednesday. Police said the bomb went off in Balad, about 100 yards (meters) from the shrine of Sayyid Mohammed, in a parking lot where pilgrims leave their cars. Police and a medic said another 30 people were wounded in the blast which occurred shortly after noon on Wednesday. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media. Balad is 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Baghdad.
