Iraqi officials: kidnapped Baghdad security spokesman released

Authorities say the high-profile civilian spokesman for the Baghdad security operation has been released four days after he was kidnapped in the capital. A police officer speaking on condition of anonymity says Tahseen al-Sheikhly was released Monday evening in eastern Baghdad. The Baghdad military spokesman's office has confirmed the release. The announcement comes a day after Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi Army militia fighters off the streets following clashes with Iraqi security forces. Officials have said al-Sheikhly was kidnapped Thursday when gunmen stormed his home and killed three bodyguards in a Mahdi Army stronghold.
