Kuwait's leader said his country has contributed US $100 million to a fund it has created to provide food for the needy in Islamic countries. Sheik Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah has called on other countries and organizations to support the fund, saying it will also encourage food production programs in Islamic countries. Sheik Sabah made the announcement Tuesday at the opening of the fourth World Islamic Economic Forum in Kuwait City. The World Bank estimates that food prices have risen by 83 percent in three years, sparking violent protests in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
