Lebanese army helicopter hit by gunfire in south of country

A Lebanese army helicopter has made an emergency landing in south Lebanon after being struck by gunfire, security officials said Thursday. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties in the incident. The officials said the chopper landed in the highland region of the Iqlim al-Tuffah province, southeast of the southern port city of Sidon - a usually calm area. The Lebanese army has been targeted recently. A bus bombing earlier this month in the northern city of Tripoli killed 18 soldiers and civilians. Authorities blamed the attack on Islamic militants. The officials spoke on customary condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.
