Lebanese spokesman, Salah Saliman claimed in an interview with a Jordanian newspaper A-Rai that the Lebanese army's objective is to "protect Lebanon's citizens from Israeli aggression." Saliman said that the army's deployment along the Lebanese-Syrian border was to prevent smuggling of arms in particular, and not for any other reason.
