German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed support for Lebanese independence during talks with Lebanese leaders Monday. Merkel was met by Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora at Beirut airport. The German leader later held a round of talks with the Western-backed Saniora and met Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who is a leading member of the Hizbullah-led opposition.
