Official: Jordan and Iraq agree on deal to swap prisoners

An Iraqi official said Baghdad and Jordan have agreed to swap some prisoners so they can serve their jail terms in their home countries.
The Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Sa'ad al-Hayyani said Thursday the deal does not include prisoners convicted of terrorism charges.
He said Jordan agreed to the deal after months of negotiations between the two neighbors.
The ambassador claimed that there are up to 50 Iraqi prisoners in Jordan who could return to Iraq. They were convicted in Jordan of various criminal charges including fraud, theft and murder.
Al-Hayyani could not estimate how many Jordanians jailed in Iraq could return to Jordan under the deal.
Jordanian government officials were not immediately available for comment.
