Official: Palestinians facing serious water shortages as drought continues

The West Bank has been experiencing serious water shortages this summer, the head of the Palestinian Water Authority reported Sunday. Shadad Ateli said many Palestinian homes are without water for hours, and sometimes days, at a time. Ateli explained that five years of drought had diminished supplies, while the Palestinian population had grown rapidly since then. Palestinians had hoped to negotiate a better water deal in a final peace agreement with Israel, which remains elusive, Ateli added. Uri Shani of Israel's Water Authority said Palestinians are receiving more than their agreed share.
