Over 50 bodies unearthed in mass grave northeast of Baghdad

Soldiers have unearthed more than 50 badly decomposed bodies in a mass grave northeast of Baghdad, Iraqi police say. The bodies were found in an orchard Sunday in the village of al-Kubaa near Baqouba, a town 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad, the police said. The area has seen frequent fighting between American troops and Sunni insurgents led by al-Qaida in Iraq. Residents say the area was a former stronghold of al-Qaida. The US military in northern Iraq said it cannot confirm the report.
