Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh blasted the United States and the European Union on Wednesday for their insistence that Hamas recognize Israel. He said the Quartet was presenting the PA with new demands to "recognize the legitimacy of the occupation," Israel Radio reported. Haniyeh promised that his government would continue to defend Palestinian rights. He stated that the financial crisis can only unify the Palestinians.
