Israeli troops shot and killed a Hamas militant in a clash in the southern Gaza Strip before dawn Friday, the group and medics said.
The Israeli army spokesman said it was not aware of any exchange of fire in the area. Hamas said the armed man was near the border with Israel, east of Khan Younis, when soldiers shot him. Medics confirmed the man was killed.
Tensions are high along the Israel-Gaza border and Israeli troops frequently shoot and kill armed Palestinians in the area.
