Palestinian officials: Fatah wants Abbas to run for presidency again

Senior Fatah Party officials say they're trying to persuade Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to run for re-election. Abbas has said he wouldn't run in the 2010 balloting. But Abbas confidant Ahmed Qurei, the chief Palestinian negotiator in talks with Israel, said Saturday that the president would be their Fatah Party's candidate. An adviser to Abbas said he hadn't agreed yet, but that Fatah intended to nominate him. No date has been set for the nomination.
