US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Syrian President Bashar Assad on Wednesday in Damascus. Following the meeting, Pelosi reported that she had conveyed a message from Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to Assad, saying that Israel was ready to begin peace negotiations with Syria. She also emphasized to Assad her concern over the IDF soldiers kidnapped by Hamas and Hizbullah.
