The captors of kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston have promised to release the British Broadcasting Corp. correspondent within 24 hours, a person involved in the negotiations said Friday.
Late Friday, Hamas issued a statement saying it had was taking "practical steps" to secure Johnston's release. It gave no further details.
