Report: Rice urged Abbas not to go to Damascus

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas not do go to Damascus, the Al Halij newspaper reported on Friday. However, Abbas refused to heed Rice's calls and is scheduled to meet with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Damascus on Saturday to discuss ways of resolving the ongoing crisis in the PA.
