Rice to travel to Bahrain, Kuwait for Middle East peace, Iraq talks

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice plans to travel to the Middle East this month to build support among Arab countries for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and to lobby Iraq's neighbors for help in stabilizing Iraq. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack says Rice will meet April 22 with foreign ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council, Egypt and Jordan in Bahrain. He says she plans to discuss Middle East peace talks as well as Iraq. McCormack says the secretary also will press for more support for Iraq's development April 23 in Kuwait at a conference of Iraq's neighbors. Two previous conferences were in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt,and Istanbul, Turkey. McCormack said Wednesday it is unclear how Iran would be represented at the conference.
