Syrian human rights group says member sentenced to 6 months in jail

A Syrian court has sentenced one of its members to six months in prison because of an article he wrote criticizing the government, according to a human rights group Sunday. The National Organization for Human Rights in Syria said Mohamad Dak al-Bab was arrested in March and sentenced Sunday. It did not give details about his writing. Bab, 59, spent six years in jail as a political prisoner before being released in 2005. The rights group issued a statement Sunday condemning Bab's sentence and calling for its cancellation.
