Train smashes into 3 vehicles in northern Egypt, killing 40

A train plowed into three vehicles in a northern Egyptian town, killing at least 40 people, said a police official on Wednesday Another 50 people were injured in the accident, said the official. The deadly collision occurred after a large truck slammed into the three vehicles, pushing them onto the tracks, he said. The train en route from Matruh to Alexandria crushed the cars as it reached the intersection. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to the media. Thirty-five people were declared dead at the scene, while five died in a hospital.
