US military: American soldier killed in southern Baghdad

A US soldier was killed by small arms fire during operations in a southern section of the Iraqi capital, the military said Friday. The Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier died Thursday, the military said. The soldiers in this unit continue to conduct aggressive attack operations against al-Qaida cells that use the section of the city as a support zone, the brief statement from the military added. The latest death raised to 3,810 members of the US military who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
